Help Reopen Our Residential Retreat Program

Bd24e0ab 3281 bb3e 0b12 b063f3c1d7bb
by The Monks and Nuns of Deer Park Monastery on September 14, 2026

Dear Friend,

For more than two decades, Deer Park Monastery has been a refuge where people from every walk of life have come to pause, breathe, and rediscover the peace that is already within them.

Here, children have learned to smile with mindful breathing. Young adults have found direction in times of uncertainty. Families have healed together. Thousands have experienced the joy of walking meditation beneath the oak trees, sharing silent meals, and listening deeply to themselves and one another.

This refuge exists today because of the love, dedication, and generosity of countless friends who have cared for it over the past 26 years. Today, we are being called to care for it once again.

We hope you will consider offering a gift to help support this work of care and renewal.

As the monastery has grown, we are undertaking an important renewal to ensure that Deer Park continues to meet current safety and regulatory standards while preserving its ability to offer retreats, monastic training, educational programs, and spaces for quiet contemplation for generations to come.

This work includes renewing our community kitchens, improving essential infrastructure, updating permits, and carefully planning for the future stewardship of this beautiful land. These efforts require the guidance of architects, engineers, planning professionals, and legal advisors who can help us establish a strong and lasting foundation.

Although these projects are significant, they are ultimately about something much deeper than buildings. They are about protecting a place where people discover peace; where reconciliation begins; where mindfulness is lived each moment of the day; a place where future generations will continue to learn the art of mindful living.

Every contribution, whether large or small, becomes part of this collective aspiration. Together, we are preserving not only a monastery, but also a living sanctuary where the teachings of mindfulness, compassion, and understanding can continue to flourish for many years to come.

Our campaign goal is $2,240,000 with a hope to raise $500,000 by the end of this year, so this important work can continue without delay.

In order to reopen our residential retreat program and continue serving practitioners from around the world, we must complete a significant renewal of the monastery's facilities and infrastructure. This work cannot happen without the generosity of our worldwide Sangha.

"The greatest gift we can offer the future is to care deeply for what allows peace to blossom in the present."

- Thich Nhat Hanh

The work has already begun. Engineers, planners, and legal professionals are actively helping Deer Park navigate this important renewal, and the sooner these projects are completed, the sooner the monastery can once again welcome retreatants home.

If you are able to help carry this renewal forward, we welcome your support. Every gift, offered in the spirit of generosity, becomes part of what allows Deer Park to open its doors again.

With gratitude,
The Monks and Nuns of Deer Park Monastery

Summer Retreat CancellationsFor many months, we have been looking forward to welcoming you back to Deer Park Monastery for the upcoming retreat season, beginning with Teen Camp this summer. It is therefore with a heavy heart that we must share some difficult news: Deer Park Monastery needs to cancel all of our upcoming in-person retreats at the monastery, including Teen Camp, Family Retreat, and Vietnamese Retreat. The Buddha the Scientist Retreat will now be held off-campus.
