Deer Park Monastery was established by the Vietnamese Zen Master, Buddhist monk, author, and peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh. Affectionately known as Thay (pronounced “Tay” or “Tie”), which is Vietnamese for “teacher”, by his students, he entered Tu Hieu Temple as a novice monk at the age of sixteen in 1942.
Over the years, Thay came to be a global spiritual leader and peace activist. Known as the “Father of Mindfulness” he founded the Plum Village tradition which includes 12 mindfulness practice and monastic training centers around the world.
