Deer Park Monastery is a mindfulness practice and monastic training center in the Plum Village tradition founded by the Vietnamese Buddhist monk, author, and peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh. The Deer Park community includes both monastics and lay people living on site who are involved in the daily operations of the monastery.

Working at Deer Park provides a chance to help connect people to Thay’s teachings. It’s an opportunity to promote the learning, practicing, and teaching of the art of mindful living in the Plum Village tradition, and to be actively engaged in realizing Thay’s vision for a vibrant and healing Beloved Community of happy people who live in peace and harmony with each other and the Earth.

Part-Time Online Course Administrator

Deer Park Monastery is seeking a part-time Online Course Administrator to support and coordinate the operations of its virtual course programming. This mindful and compassionate professional will help manage all aspects of the monastery’s online learning platform, serving as the first point of contact for course participants, facilitating live virtual classes, and collaborating with team members to ensure seamless program delivery.

Our Beloved Teacher

Deer Park Monastery was established by the Vietnamese Zen Master, Buddhist monk, author, and peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh. Affectionately known as Thay (pronounced “Tay” or “Tie”), which is Vietnamese for “teacher”, by his students, he entered Tu Hieu Temple as a novice monk at the age of sixteen in 1942.

Over the years, Thay came to be a global spiritual leader and peace activist. Known as the “Father of Mindfulness” he founded the Plum Village tradition which includes 12 mindfulness practice and monastic training centers around the world.
